Good morning, Tifa. I hope the morning finds you well.
This may not be a message about breakfasts but I wanted to ask you what kind of books you might like. I may have found a rather interesting hole in the wall with books on sale.
Nothing embarassing of the sort. I'll also admit that I'm fond of fantasy and adventure novels myself. If there is a well-written romance as well, I won't refuse it.
Browsing here I have found a few that might pick your interest. If you would you be amenable to the idea how would care for starting a little book club?
When all there is to do is ride a rocking ship across the waves until you've hit land? Completely.
That's why I thought it might be an interesting idea. It's simple, we take turns picking out a book to read that might interest both of us. Then while we are travelling we both read our copies of the book. Once we're finished reading, or in this case, once we've hit shore again, we compare notes.
Of course, should you want to compare notes while travelling the seas, that's fine too.
[Oh no, she thinks this sounds like an adorable idea...]
I love this!!! βΊοΈ You know, what if we meet on Eltrut once in a while to compare notes? There's this great little tea shop that Jill took me to. Could get cozy there with some tea, scones, and the books we read.
[Joshua will have to stop being such a blushing maiden, then.]
Of course. The one I am reading now is about a noble married couple who secretly live a second life as trained rogues. They are tasked with protecting a charge across a war-torn land. But somewhere along the way, their contracts are turned on one another. A complicated emotional twist.
Oh. Here. Click on the button I've circled and a whole bunch will appear!
[And here comes a screenshot of the emoji button next to the text input field, followed by more of them.]
π₯°βΊοΈπ
I'm sure you could find something similar, if not the same, if you look hard enough. I've also heard of people asking the Leviathans to bring things back from their worlds. Don't really know how that works, though.
But I'd love to. I've yet to actually meet Nogard properly, so when you go, let me know. I'm pretty good at sneaking onto the leviathan these days. π
Well, if they're going around scaring people away from enjoying shrimp... then I've got a whole lot of shrimp I'm not going to be able to do a whole lot with.
[There sure is a lot of information missing from this message.]
He said what???
He didn't actually, did he? There are way too many things we don't know anything about, he shouldn't be going around stuffing things in his mouth that shouldn't be there!
At any rate, I have no idea how they managed to get your ID. Unless one of them snuck into the kitchen to find it when I wasn't looking. But jumping to the conclusion that I just handed it over to them? Really?
There's a clear difference between the public and private messaging systems.
Even if we say that still applies, you are the only one I've frequently communicated with, and it turns out the unsolicited messages are from people related to you.
If there is any security issue, it's on your side.
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make when both of those were notably public messages and this is the first time I received unsolicited private messages.
My point is that anyone who knows how to work the network properly could find your ID just as easily.
[Whether Aerith or Cloud are capable of that is another issue that she isn't going to get into!!!]
Anyway. It wasn't my fault. If they somehow got into my phone, then I had no idea. I'm really, truly sorry that they managed to get it, and I'll make sure to talk to them, but you keep making it sound like I was the one who sent you the video!
[Oh, you better believe they are going to get a very stern talking to.]
[The very same day, Rin will receive a message from Tifa.]
Oh my gosh, this dress is absolutely stunning! π I love it, and just tried it on so it fits perfectly. What's the occasion? You really didn't have to do that.
I think it's perfect! I didn't make a completely matching dress, but I made something for myself in a similar style. I don't think Eltrut is ready for us ladies, but it'll be exciting to go out and just have a little fun while we're all dressed up.
I've had enough of beds and ceilings for a lifetime, in fact.
That is alright, though. I appreciate the thought that you would come to my side if you could. You might have to settle for telling me more about what you've been up to. Do you have any adventures you could regale me with?
Not quite. Mostly just helping with repairs around Eltrut. I've been bringing some food to locals who are in the middle of rebuilding their homes after that huge storm.
I did manage to make a trip down to that mermaid city in that whirlpool not that long ago. That was pretty neat. Never had fins before, but I guess there's a first for everything in this place.
Hard to get used to at first. Definitely made me a little directionally challenged for a while, and the fins are a lot stronger than they feel. Sent me flying through the water a few times before I finally got used to it.
I'm sure if you asked nicely, the mermaids would be happy to show you around. I know that they're still trying to recover, so any help they can get down there would go a long way.
You know, I didn't really know Dion that well. I only met him once or twice, and we never really got to sit down and get to know each other. What was he like?
He was a prince too, wasn't he? He turned into this dragon thing as well, with wings and everything and saved me from a bunch of skeletons on the ghost ship. Still not quite sure what that was about.
He was, yes. The crown prince of the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, in fact. A nation on my star.
I'm sure he hadn't meant to keep it a secret. But Dion was also the Dominant of Bahamut. Meaning that he could transform into Bahamut's form, as you said.
I'm not surprised he was off valiantly saving others.
[She does have to wonder what that might mean, but she isn't about to give up hope just yet!!!]
Honestly? I'm surprised I didn't see it before. Just from what I knew from the few times I did meet him, you two seem like you would get along well, and have a lot in common.
And if it will help clear your head a little, why not try writing a letter to him? Maybe toss it in a bottle, and who knows?
[Joshua is very uncertain that he'll ever see Dion in this world again. But what Tifa says actually seems like a good idea... Maybe it would put his heart at ease.]
We certainly did have a lot in common, although he was always better at drinking than I was. [A small joke, to lighten the mood.]
And I might try just that. Perhaps it'll help if I put my thoughts into words. Even if they might not reach him? I do know that there are some here who say that writing a letter to the ocean can be particularly cathartic.
Good day, Tifa! This is Sumina. We met a little while back whilst trying on jewelry together. I hope you're doing all right with everything going on as of late, but I'm also writing to ask I could pay you a visit aboard the Seventh Heaven sometime soon.
Looking forward to hearing from you! -SH.
[ it's hard not to slip back into the ye olde habit of writing texts like they are letters, when it comes to messaging a new friend for the first time! ]
[It's so cute that she signs her initials at the end... but needless to say, Tifa is ecstatic to hear from her, and the response comes shortly after.]
Of course it would be alright! βΊοΈ We're docked at our usual spot in Eltrut, so just look for the colourful sails. I'll get the bar nice and ready for you.
[ And sure enough, when that time comes, Sumina will go ahead and send Tifa a message to let her that she's just about arrived in Eltrut, and shall be waiting by the docks.
It's hard to miss the colorful sails of the Seventh Heaven, certainly, but still— it's so nice of Tifa to offer to meet with her at the docks. And despite her request to simply bring herself, Sumina naturally must go an extra (nautical) mile, anyway, and she waits at the appointed meeting place with a bundle of neatly-wrapped mixed herbs in one arm. ]
[Tifa comes rushing down the pier to meet her as soon as she gets the message, arriving not long after Sumina does so that she doesn't have to wait, and her eyes move to the herbs in her arms, lighting up, before she offers her a most welcoming and winning smile. She won't admit it aloud, but she is beside herself with joy that she's come to visit...]
What's all this?
[A motion to the herbs as she beckons for Sumina to follow her down the boardwalk to where the Seventh Heaven is docked not far.]
[ Sumina mirrors that same brightness upon meeting up with Tifa; she's been looking forward to this visit, but more so to spending more time getting to know a fellow businesswoman! And Tifa was truly such a delight when they met, that Sumina earnestly hopes they can become friends.
The innkeeper falls into step as she follows, holding the bundle up when Tifa asks about them. ]
Ahaha. I know you said I needn't bring anything, but... I've been experimenting with growing these, and used a tonic I'd received from a quest... which then made my plants grow a bit too much. So, these are for you and the bar! You'd be doing me a favor by taking these off of my hands, really!
[Tifa's eyes widen a bit at the herbs as she leads Sumina up to the ship, gesturing for her to board first from the dock, because that is quite the bundle she has.
But as soon as they're both on board, she does a sweeping gesture to welcome her, as if she were walking into Eltrut's fanciest bar... which it is far from being.]
[ Ah! She feels so very welcomed, indeed, and though she's dwelled in this world for a little over a month already, this is still her first time boarding a ship ran by fellow riftfarers, and there's no small measure of awe in her expression as she looks around. ]
Ha— Happy to be on board, Miss Tifa! Wow... So this ship is all your own, isn't it? And your crew's of course. Remarkable!
[ She can't imagine how much work it must be to keep something like this going, but, well... She has a feeling she'll have to learn sooner or later, especially if a certain someone whose name starts with "go" and rhymes with "joe" decides to procure (?) and establish his own crew. ]
[The deck itself is nothing to write home about quite yet. The most interesting thing are the sails that change colours with every shift of the wind. Mood sails, as Nimona called them, though Tifa isn't sure that they work the way that she had explained them to. She's pretty sure they just slowly change colour in some random pattern.]
Sure is!
[Still, she beams with pride anyway because as she leads Sumina closer to the back, she'll see the round island bar in the center of the deck, with tables and chairs set around. There are a few people there enjoying themselves with a few drinks, and a member of their kitchen crew running the place while the others are gone. The island counter wraps all the way around the bar in the middle of it all, and it's stacked with bottles. There's a grill, an oven, and a stovetop, and fairy lights that help illuminate it that dangle all the way around.]
It isn't much yet, but it does the job for now.
[And that's about as much as she can ask for. So, she gestures to a seat at the bar.]
So, grab a seat and I'll whip up whatever you want!
[ Nothing to write home about quite yet, and yet those mood sails are exactly that, at least by Sumina's estimation!! And so is the bar itself. She's had the pleasure of visiting some inns and taverns over her career, but certainly not one quite like this. It's inspiring... ]
Oh, my... I know you don't think it much, yet, but I hope you'll believe me when I say you're off to a terrific start.
[ This definitely feels more... welcoming than any other bar she's seen on Corsair ships, that's for sure! Regardless, Sumina takes her seat, settling in nicely as she looks around at every minute detail her starry eyes can take in. ]
Would you happen to have any mead, by chance? Or a house wine you're particularly fond of?
[ Also, she's sliding that bundle of herbs over the counter... ]
[She wishes that she could take some of the credit for the bar's setup, but that was all her crew. Needless to say, she was surprised when they put it all together right under her nose. Still, it earns a flattered flush in her cheeks anyway as she slides around the counter behind the bar.]
No house wines yet, though I am cooking up something that should hopefully be finished in a few months. I have already made my own whiskey, but we don't carry that one here.
[It had been a gift for someone else, and she's going to keep that particular brand unique to him.]
[Dry white wine coming right up. And since I know nothing about wines, pretend that there are some crisp citrusy notes to it.]
It's actually kinda fun, though... distilling. Learned a lot while making it. You should come with me next time! Maybe get one started for when you get a new inn up and running.
[ That sounds about right bc I know nothing also!! ]
I would love to, though— Ah.
[ The teasing!! Sumina chuckles and shakes her head. ]
Oh, I don't know if I would manage such an undertaking here... I feel rather adrift here, if I'm honest. Each day is wilder than the last. That's why I find it so impressive that you and your companions managed to establish this!
[With a cold bottle of beer in hand, she comes around the counter to join Sumina, taking a seat on the stool next to hers. She doesn't want to be interrupted if she's standing behind the bar.]
Well, when you've got a crew of really eager doers who all wanna be really hands-on, it becomes a little easier. [A pause, and she takes a small swig of her beer.] I meant to ask, did you manage to find yourself a crew since I last saw you?
[ The question about a crew draws a long, thoughtful hum from Sumina. She honestly hadn't thought about it at all, given how much of this is such an adjustment for her to begin with. Even so, she would be perfectly happy continuing on with the crew of the Stormbringer, even if she's absolutely Just A Little Guy amongst the veteran corsairs and whatnot. Perhaps they've even taken to thinking of her like their strange, sweet niece or some such... ]
I... have yet to find a different crew. Those aboard the Stormbringer strangely remind me of home, if I'm honest, our inn being what it is. The captain is just as fierce as many of my more... adventurous relatives. It's quite lively.
[ However, and it's a big one, added as she offers a resigned sigh against the rim of her wine glass. ]
Satoru would probably want to go his own way with a crew of his own choosing, however...
[ Maybe once he's done picking fights with every shonen protagonist and/or teenager in this game. ]
[Tifa has heard the stories about the Stormbringer's captain, and has met the Royal Fortune's at least once, so she can safely say that she agrees with those sentiments. Adventurous would certainly be the word, if the things she's heard bear any truth to them.
The name that Sumina mentions, though, is an unfamiliar one to her, and she takes another small sip of her beer and tilts her head.]
Satoru? He a friend or family?
[The only reason she asks that is because it sounds like a conditionalβsomething that Sumina is taking into heavy consideration for her own future.]
[ She is taking him into heavy consideration for her own future, and at Tifa's question, she blinks for a moment, like she's never been asked this.
...Has she ever been asked to actually describe their relationship out loud, before...? Usually, the fact just seems to surface itself without need for explanation, especially if Satoru himself is present. He's rather outspoken, after all... ]
[Tifa can already tell what he is before Sumina can even say it. It doesn't take much to read the flush in her cheeks, or the way she stammers with her answer, and she can't help but bite back a smile that she hides in a drink. Funnily enough, Sumina blushing also causes Tifa's cheeks to bloom with colour for asking.]
Ah. Well then, I guess it is pretty important that you stick with him.
[That answers that.
She really can't help herself, and she doesn't mean to tease, butβ]
That mean he'll be your captain, too?
[There might be the faintest glimmer of amusement in her eyes.]
[ Absolutely nobody in this game is prepared for Gojo to become a captain and worse, having others call him captain, both Sumina and I are praying for everyone's continued sanity.
...But, yes. Tifa is right about that, on both counts... ]
Y..Yes, I suppose so!
[ Ahh, she's being teased. ]
We met at the hotel I mentioned to you before, and arrived here together. We were... incredibly fortunate, that it turned out this way, ahaha...
( ooc: i'm on hiatus this month, but feel free to let this go if it's too old β₯ )
[ There is a momentary display of concern over Tifa as she nearly chokes on her drink, but Sumina slips right back into a deep sheepishness at her following comment. She's redder than her pink hair, all the way to the very tips of her pointed ears... ]
That's... that's right! I-It's quite— [ yeah, romantic ] Unbelievable when put into those terms, isn't it? Ahaha... ha...
H-He's always been quite a handful, and I fear arriving here has only awakened an even more chaotic sense of mischief and misadventure, b-but still— [ help. she's yapping!? ] I know we'll stay true to one another...!
[ Practically wheezing after all that, Sumina lifts her glass to her mouth and drinks, with urgency. ]
[Tifa can't help but giggleβnot at Sumina, but just at how cute it is that they have still managed to find each other again in this world after being in another one. She's a bit of a hopeless romantic herself, so her own cheeks flush a bit at the thought. Don't worry Sumina, she won't judge.]
Honestly? I think it's sweet.
[Maybe not so much the chaotic part, but Tifa's never met him before, so who's to say?]
Almost makes me wish I had something like that, too.
[ Tifa does seem to just have one of those dazzling personalities that makes one want to simply befriend her, such a talent for making someone feel so comfortable and safe and familiar even for the short time that they've known each other. They're some of Sumina's favorite kind people to surround herself with...
She's also rather eager to not have this entire conversation revolve around her relationship and wants to get to know Tifa more, so given the opportunity, she quickly pivots. ]
Ah, I'm certain you'll find it for yourself, too, Tifa. You're so very lovely! In fact, I would be shocked if you didn't already have a few admirers... even if you might not know of them just yet.
[She doesn't mean to sound so surprised or interested in that, and realizing just how much she had, she draws it back, a hand fidgeting with a lock of hair.]
I don't know... With the bar and making sure the whole crew stays out of trouble, I'm not sure I would even have the time for something like that. I'm sure you know what that can be like sometimes, running an inn. When life keeps you busy...
[ Well, that does strike a chord with Sumina, remembering all too well how she'd always written the possibility of something like a relationship off when it felt like she was simply too busy to even think about it, when being an innkeeper was all she could think to be, on top of being a daughter, a sister, a friend. She couldn't fathom being someone's lover, as well, until her stay at the hotel had decisively taken her away from her role. It was only then that she was able to begin learning who she was outside of her work...
So she levels a look most understanding and sympathetic at Tifa, her expression softening. ]
I understand the feeling, truly. There's already so much to do, you can't fathom how someone special might slot into your life. Honestly, if not for the fact that I'd stepped away to stay at the hotel, I... Ahaha, I truly might have ended up an old maid.
Of course, I don't find myself quite as busy as you are, these days, but what I do believe is that... When the right person comes along, it won't so much feel like having to make space or time for them. It feels like... they fit right into your days, into your life, like they were always meant to be there.
[ ... She looks back down to her glass of wine. She's so embarrassed... ]
[There is nothing to be embarrassed about. Tifa thinks the sentiment is sweet, and she listens so very carefully to what Sumina has to say, as if she is telling her one of the world's greatest secrets or solving its mysteries. She always did feel a bit silly, even bothering to think about it, always so tied to her responsibilities that she would scold herself for getting so distracted by mere thoughts and daydreams, but maybe she's right.
Maybe... the right person will just fit...]
... Is that how you felt with Gojo when he came in?
[She's really not trying to embarrass Sumina, but... she might be trying to figure out her own feelings at the moment. Complicated, messy ones.
That, and she's a quiet, secret sucker for romance.]
[ She can tell that Tifa's questioning comes from a place of sincerity, of curiosity that may be driven by a wish for some kind of clarity about oneself, and... Well, she can't be upset about that, and for her own part she would... really like to move away from her old tendencies to never speak much of her own life. She'd like to make friends. To be a friend - and that starts by sharing, being a little vulnerable at times.
...Though she does have to chuckle, at first. ]
Goodness... no! If anything, he felt quite unnatural, at first. Always butting into my life every chance he would get, but you know... At the time, it's what I needed. I needed to be disrupted like that, to grow out of the comfort I'd found in loneliness. And now...
[ A fond smile peeks through even her bashfulness. ]
Now, it feels like he was missing, when I look back on what my life was like before...
[Her voice takes on a more whimsical note to it, and for a moment, it looks as if her eyes drift off elsewhere with her thoughts once Sumina is finished.]
I guess... you won't really know until you try, huh? Harder to realize what you're missing when you don't know what that is...
[There's a brief, pensive pause as Tifa smiles to herself.]
You should bring him by Seventh Heaven sometime. I'd love to meet the guy who managed to woo you.
[Out of everyone on the crew ship, Tifa was the one he was scared to talk to the most. In some ways, he reminded him of an older sister like Lynette. That was why it terrified him to know that she also might have the same results that the others from Teyvat might have. He knew that talking to his crewmates first compared to his brother would have mixed results.
And yet, the guilt was kicking in. He didn't want Lyney to bear the weight of it all. However, he just hoped that Tifa would understand...]
Ms. Tifa, are you around right now? There is something I need to talk to you about.
[She doesn't even need to think of her answer. Whatever Tifa had been doing at the bar can wait, and so she sets aside her bookkeeping and texts him right back.]
I am. Up at the bar right now, whenever you're ready. I'll whip up some iced tea for us?
[Though, she does have to wonder what it could be about, if he's texting her to check...]
[Thta just makes it worse. Knowing just how kind she was made it more difficult knowing what heβll say next regardless, he still had to do it.]
Oh, thereβs no need. You donβt have to do that. But Iβll be at the bar soon.
[With that, off he went to the bar. As he did so, he took a deep breath in when he sat somewhere. Looking up, it was clear he had something on his mind.]
β¦Hello, Ms. Tifa. I hope you have been doing well.
[Well, she's going to do it anyway. So when he arrives at the bar, there will be a spot saved for him, marked by a glass of fresh iced tea with a sprig of mint leaf in it.]
About as well as I can be around here. And you, too.
[She gives the counter a pat as she stands across from him.]
We can go find a quieter place, if you want.
[Not that the deck is very loud at the moment. Things are quiet as they are, but she knows that can also change quickly.]
[Which made it all the harder for him should he reveal who he was. Seeing Tifa being so caring for him made his heart sink as a look of regret was written all over his face.]
Y-Yes, that would best. Where do you think we can go?
[All the while shifting around his weight as he dared not to look her in the eyes.]
[She does not miss the way he shifts around or that change in his expression, so it's probably a good call.]
Well, I can't leave the bar with people here, but we can grab a table. [Picking up the glass with a reassuring smile, she comes around to the other side to lead him to one that's set far off to the side, away from the people who are enjoying their lunches.] This okay?
[At least here, their conversation will be muted under the din, and with it so close to the edge of the ship, the waves that splash against the hull.]
[The moment that they were set off to the side, Freminet found himself fidgeting once more. As he wondered if this was a bad idea, he knew he couldn't back out now. And yet, it didn't stop him from wondering the worst-case scenario. Would she reject him and his brother? He didn't know but he liked to think that with Tifa's personality, she wouldn't.
Still, he didn't say anything as he gave a long pause. Looking at the ground, there were so many thoughts running through his mind as he mumbled to himself. Taking a couple of deep breaths in, he had to get this done.]
....Ms. Tifa, whatever I tell you next, please don't blame my brother or my Father for this. I know it will be difficult to hear but I want to make sure my family stays safe.
[Patient as ever, Tifa gives Freminet all the time he needs to figure out how he wants to say it. God knows she doesn't know how to say things half the time, especially when it's something as delicate as this seems to be. Though, she can't even guess what it could beβeven when he tells her, a thousand thoughts run through her head, none of them very good.]
[With her panicking, it made Freminet panic just as much. This wasn't how he expected! However, Tifa was different from the others. She has no idea who the Knave or what the Fatui stands for! With a cough or two, he shook his head.]
Y-Yes, they're fine! Just...
[He said with a mumble or two.]
...We're working for an organization that isn't really well liked. We happened to do some things that some might seem questionable. I...I hope you don't mind that.
[Relief washes over her just as quickly as the panic had come. First and foremost, as long as Freminet and Lyney were safe and not in any danger, then that was what mattered. They were just as much a part of this diverse family as any one of them were, and she would do what she could to protect them.
Not that it sounds like she needs to, but she does give a confused tilt of her head.]
What do you mean, organization?
[And then, there's the unasked question that's laced beneath it: what questionable things?
But her voice lacks any judgment because, really, who on this ship can even make the call on what borders on questionable?]
[He was hoping he wasn't going to regret this. Forming his hands into fists, he had to remain calm. He can't panic, he had to do this, he had to tell her.]
I...Lyney, Father and I are in an organization called the Fatui. Back home, they have done some rather interesting thing. Some that I don't want to talk about but...
[In the back of his mind, he wondered if he said anything, would her opinion of him or Lyney would change. He already knew that Tifa cared a lot about him, he didn't want to break that friendship.]
...They have done some experimentations on children and citizens alike. They aren't afraid of harming or destroying cities if they have to. But...
[He said with a mumble or two.] Despite this, I...I want to let you know that just because we work for them doesn't mean we share the same ideas.
[Something different flickers across her expression. A lot, actually. Mostly confusion and dread, though not for the reasons Freminet might think. He is so youngβhe and Lyney both. What are they doing getting caught up in that kind of thing? In those kinds of people who are, as she steps back a bit and looks at the whole picture of what he's said, much like Shinra?
Still, her expression lacks any judgment, and she listens carefully, and what he finishes with leaves her feeling... somewhat relieved. Relieved, but no less worried for him.]
I get that.
[She gives him a slow nod of understanding.]
Just because you work under a certain faction doesn't mean you've gotta agree with everything they do. And I know that you and Lyney aren't those kinds of people. [A smile, though it's crooked.] I believe that wholeheartedly.
[That wasn't something he was expecting to hear. Here, he thought she would reprimand him for doing such a thing. As he looked at her in shock, he quickly shook his head before coughing to himself.]
A-Are you sure? Because I know we...
[He trailed off before feeling a bit bold. If she understand then maybe...]
I have done some questionable things ourselves but it is for the sake of protecting the family.
[And not the organization. Even though they were part of the Fatui, Freminet would never work with them. Their ideas are terrible and downright cruel.]
[It's asked simply, with no pressure whatsoever. If he doesn't want to talk about those things, then that's okay, but from the looks of it, this is something that he has been holding onto for a long time. Something that he seems to have been fretting and nervous about. If it would help for him to talk about it with someone he feels safe with, then she is willing to listen.]
[He wanted to tell her that he was an assassin. However, it wasn't that he wanted to. He just had to do it for the sake of his family and to make sure that they were okay. However, he really didn't know how Tifa would take it despite her caring nature.
There was a long silence before nodding his head.]
Y-Yes, I...what would you say if I did something dubious for survival? For...helping my family out?
[Despite sounding confident in the beginning, his voice slowly started to trail into a whisper. Almost as if he was ready for her to scold him.]
Tifa thinks she knows, or at least, she can make some assumptions about it based on his reaction alone. And for his honesty, she feels she needs to return the favour.]
... Mm. I'd say that while I can't condone anything bad, I'd also say that I have no room to judge. I don't know your world, or your life before this one. Maybe you needed to do what you had to to survive and to protect the people that you love because there was no other choice, I don't know.
[Once again, there was a long silence on his end. As he wanted to speak up, he wonders all the different ways this could do wrong. He took a deep breath in as he wanted what he should do. Shifting his weight around in his seat, he was just scared.
In that moment, he closed his eyes as he just hoped for the best.]
E-Even if it meant...killing people? Or anyone that can be seen as a threat to the family...?
[While he wanted to be confident in his words, he found himself whispering it the more he continued. Again, he was just waiting a scolding. Just waiting to see if she would reject him....]
[Her heart twists. It twists and it turns and it hurts for him. He's so young, too young. There is no one at any age who should have to kill someone just to survive. Again, she can't say that she condones it, nor does she really understand all that much the whys and the hows of it all. She's always been of the belief that there is always another way that didn't involve taking any lives.
But then again...
There had been a point in her own life when she would have gladly let her rage take over. She would have wanted to see President Shinra dead. Sephiroth. All of the SOLDIERs. She's had those moments, even now, but they are fleeting.
As for Freminet... She isn't mad at him. How could she be? But she is mad for him. To have someone so young be forced to kill is wrong. There is so much wrong with it that she has to pause to take a drink to wash the bad taste it leaves in the back of her throat.
She sees him fidgeting, sees his confidence wavering again, and... She's not sure that any sort of platitudes will help right now. They haven't so far, so it's time to try a different tack.]
Can I tell you a secret? About me, and some people from back home?
[She's not naming names because really, none of the others here had as much a hand in it, so it didn't really matter who.]
[The silence was killing him. Knowing that Tifa wasn't saying anything made him wonder if she was going to reject him much like what the others might do. Immediately, he found himself panicking once more as he looked around the area to see if there was anyone nearby. Of course, there was a chance for him to just walk up and go.
And yet, he couldn't bring himself to. He had to hear what she would say, it was the least he could do. Taking in a few deep breathes, he eventually gave a nod. Although, now with her words sinking in, he raised an eyebrow or two.]
Y-Yes...? Is everything okay?
[That wasn't something he expected to hear. However, based on his tone, he had to wonder. Did she end up doing something questionable too?
Perhaps...they would find something in common among one another?]
[And she'll reach across the table for Freminet's hand this time, taking it under her own. Her grip is firm, yet yielding, warm, patient. And she smiles across at him, though her eyes are twinged with sadness that is not quite chased away by it.
She just hopes that it will help him be a bit more confident in coming forward about his own worries, knowing that he is perhaps not as alone as he thinks he is in this.]
Before I came here, I was part of a group called Avalanche. ... Our Planet, Gaia, is dying, and so we fought for it. Fought against the people who were draining it of its life.
[She takes a slow, steadying breath before continuing.]
We did a lot of bad things to get back at them. Just to send a message.
[Meeting Freminet's eyes.]
We bombed reactors, blew up whole parts of town. Destroyed people's homes, killed hundreds, maybe thousands... and for what...?
[As she took his hand, he was prepared for whatever she had to say. Was she going to reject his friendship? Was he going to tell the others? What about Lyney, what was she going to say about him? Once again, panic was starting to show on his face. At the same time, he also knew that she wouldn't do such a thing.
Trying to calm his mind, he was reasoning within himself that everything was going to be okay.]
I...
[Of course, as he heard her, his eyes slowly widen. To think that Tifa would ever be part of a group that would do something dangerous was a little unheard of. And yet, there was some hope behind his words. What she went through wasn't too different from what he and Lyney were doing now.]
....I'm sorry, it must have been a lot for you when that happened...
[He said as he looked down at her hand on top of his. It was still a lot to take in but it was comforting to know there was someone who understands.]
It was. Still is, sometimes, thinking back. It's not easy, coming to terms with that. It got worse over time, more extreme, and I hated what we were doing.
[She drops her eyes to their hands, and she gives his a small, comforting squeeze.]
What I'm trying to say is... I have a lot of blood on my hands, too. So many of us do. So... don't be afraid to talk about it. You can trust me. Us.
Is that why Mr. Zack understood what it was like when I told him how difficult it was for my family?
[He said in a low voice. Back then, when he said he had to survive, Zack didn't question it. He just said that he understands. Now that he knew the context, it made a lot of sense. As he held onto her hands, he could feel his eyes starting to water.
For the longest time when he was here, he had to hide a dark secret. He feared what his friends would think knowing that he had done something terrible and that they would reject him. Now that there was someone...no, people that knew what it was like? He couldn't help but start crying.]
[She shouldn't be surprised in the least, and she does smile a little at that, glad to at least know that Freminet feels safe enough to do so with people on the crew. Zack would be a good person to talk to about that, she thinks. Even if she's still working through her differences with him.
For that, she is relieved.]
What Zack and I did was... very different, and for a while, we were on opposite teams, but I think yeah, that might be why he understood.
[And even if he didn't, it just seems like something he would do.]
So, that's why you shouldn't feel scared to talk to us. No matter what it is, we're here to help. [A pause, as she thinks back to the rest of their conversation.] What exactly brought this on anyway?
[He didn't respond at first. He kept on crying as he struggled to calm himself. Trying his best to breath slowly, he was having a hard time. While he wanted to speak up, he couldn't. Not when he was just so happy to have someone who understands what his family had to go through. They weren't bad people, they just had to go through a life where they just had to survive.
After the heartache of having his friends questioning them, it just felt nice to know that he was safe. He'll have to ask Tifa and Zack what their dynamics were later but until then...?]
F-Father is here.
[He struggled to say. He had to focus on his words, he had to manage his emotions, he had to focus on the task at hand.]
...She...She is considered someone dangerous in o-our world.
[She lets him take all the time that he needs, her hands squeezing his just a little tighter with each sob and breath of his. How badly she wants to wrap her arms around him and reassure him, but she'll let him get everything he needs to say out first. She is patient, watching him closely, until he finally finds the will to speak again.
She's not quite sure yet what to think of what he saysβwhether or not she is glad to hear that Freminet's "father" is here, or what that even means. What it could imply. If she is a dangerous person, then...]
But you two aren't in any trouble, are you? She isn't going to hurt you or Lyney?
[It takes him a moment but he eventually relaxes. Taking another deep breath in, he eventually manages to get his emotions under control.]
No, she won't. It's what she has to do to make sure our family stays safe. That's what makes her dangerous.
[Not to mention how Father doesn't exactly believe what the other Fatui members are doing. While she might have to follow their rules, it doesn't means she has to agree with it.]
...And the people from my world know that too. I thought it would only be a matter of time before you found out too.
Would it be alright if I met her sometime? You should bring her by the ship, so she can at least see for herself that her family is safe.
[She doesn't want any trouble, but if this woman is as dangerous as Freminet says, and if he'd been so scared to tell Tifa about her, then Tifa wants to see for herself, too.]
[Because he had heard what happened with his brother. He was also heartbroken when the traveler rejected his friendship and turned the other way. He wasn't surprised, who would want to be associated with such an organization?]
We work with people that are dangerous. Not a lot people like them since they did terrible things in our world. Why would they want to be friends with us?
[Nevermind that his Father or any of his siblings agreed with what the Fatui were doing. They were still associated with them no matter what.]
[Tifa's chair screeches gently as she drags it across the floor, moving so that she is sitting beside him and not across from him now. She needs to make sure that he knows and remembers this, what she is about to say. That he takes it to heart.]
And who you are here, or even back there, is not defined by your past.
[If it were, then she would be just as bad.]
I don't care if you had to do what you did to survive, and to protect the people that you love. I know that you wouldn't do it if you didn't have a reason. [There's a pause.] And... while I'd prefer we didn't have to do it here, no one is gonna fault you for anything you've had to do before.
[He just didn't know how to respond to that. She's right, whatever he did back home has no bearing on what he does here. Whatever is in the past, stays in the past. All that matters now is what he does in the present.
It was great knowing that he didn't need to worry about such things here but at the same time? It did make him wonder would anyone else would be as accepting as she is.]
...You are much too kind, Ms. Tifa. I wish that there were more people like you in our world and can understand what my family had to go through. We didn't have a choice as Father took us when there was nobody we could turn to...
A lot of us on the crew had to deal with tough times ourselves.
[She smiles, but there's a sadness in her eyes. She really does wish that there were more people who could accept, and even forgive others. Too many people hold others beholden to their pasts, and she doesn't think that's the right way to look at things.]
We all know what it's like to do what you gotta to survive. Maybe we haven't all done the same things, and we all went about it in different ways, but... we get it. You don't have to worry.
[There wasn't much he could say to that. Tifa was already doing much more than he expected. He just couldn't ask for anything more when she was just so kind. How could she ever been in an organization that involved killing others...?]/small>
...Thank you, I'm just glad to know that my family will find some acceptance here. It's already difficult enough when there's so many things I don't know.
[Of that, she has no doubt. And this time... she really will pull him in for a hug. First, one arm around his shoulders to bring him to her, and then into a more full embrace with both once she has, and she holds him as tight as she can without hurting him.]
[She squeezes his shoulder, keeping him close when she feels that sigh of relief from him.]
Just keep doing whatever you're doing. And maybe help me clean out Marcon's pen when we're done your drink.
[A cheeky yet kind smile for him. There will be no rush at all, but hopefully the little chick will be enough to cheer him up and make him feel better once they're finished here...]
Nope, no worries there right now, at least. You're the best, Tifa.
If I were to hypothetically plan to make a giant breakfast, and I mean a huge one, for a couple of kids and teenagers that live with us, how hard would that be.
But yeah, I did hear from him, and he mentioned he talked to you, too. Poor kid looked like he was on the verge of just running away that whole conversation. Think whatever we both told him seemed to help, though.
I really don't mind helping if you need it, but I think pancakes is the best place to start. I've been wondering where I can find a waffle maker, though. I've yet to see a proper one around...
And we could get some fresh sausage and bacon! I know a butcher on Eltrut that has the best meats!
I could try asking around. I think the bar's breakfast menu could use some sprucing up with waffles. I've always thought they were fancier than pancakes.
They were always so hard to come by in Midgar fresh, and when I could find them, they were way too expensive. So now I take any opportunity to enjoy them when I find one.
I'm pretty partial to raspberries myself, but I've heard blackberries go really good in salads. Not that I imagine the kids'll wanna eat salads much. Good thing any berry pairs well with pancakes.
I roped him into helping me with the ladybugs and their mysterious rubies. Seemed grumpy about it but came along anyway, so he gets a stamp of approval from me.
Nah, he was fine. Escorted me down to give those ladybugs some flowers, answered my questions even if it was like pulling teeth. You know how those grumpy guys can be.
I was half expecting a βnot interestedβ at one point, so I agree on him giving off Cloud vibes. He said you guys met after his dog found a phone, right? Did he just hold it out and glare until you took it or did he introduce himself?
That tracks with him being in that βstoic but helpfulβ category like some people we know.
By the way, Iβve managed to get some flowers to grow that can be used in drinks! I set up a special spot for them in my garden area and they look good. We should set up a time to experiment with them soon.
I tried to keep it simple, I got some lavender and hibiscus growing. I was surprised by the lavender honestly since it sorta reminds me of laundry soap we used at home. But the barista swore by it!
Oh, lavender! It was always hard to come by in Midgar, and really expensive so I never used it, but I've definitely had some here in drinks. Though, more tea and less alcohol...
Sounds refreshing! I like it. We definitely need to do a little experimenting soon. The barista gave me some instructions on how to create a syrup with the flowers, but I bet you'll know just how to do it.
You know, I have used syrups before, but I've never tried to make my own. That might actually be a fun experiment, so you'll have to join me in the kitchens when I do.
Well then, let's go with traditional birthday cake. That's always a winner, right? Plus, I am pretty sure that Zack will eat just about anything that's put in front of him. He's the least picky eater I know.
[Was that a girlish little giggle from Jill? Yes, it was. If only Tifa could see how she's blushing.]
He took me to gaze at the moon. It was something we'd done together a few times before, but that night was just different. I can't say why exactly, it just felt that way. I asked him if he was there to whisk me away in the middle of a night like a proper Corsair. His response was that he was looking for the finest treasure of all.
[A happy sigh as she recounts the night that changed her life.]
If I didn't know any better, I would have suspected Clive was perusing through my bookshelf for inspiration.
[But no, Clive is just naturally a romantic when it comes to her, well-bred regardless of what his mother might say, and treats Jill like the precious thing she is to him.]
Why wouldn't I? You're one of my closest friends here. Just inviting you to the ceremony doesn't seem enough.
[Well, only one of two of her closest female friends here, but in time, that should change. For now, though, Jill wants Tifa by her side on that significant day, just as Joshua will be there for Clive.]
Well, I assume that as a bridesmaid you need to make sure I arrive on time. Maybe help with tying my corset, have tissue in case I cry...
[Which she will. It's a guarantee Jill will sob on the happiest day of her life.]
And I'm much more concerned for your own comfort. Just dress as you would any other wedding, unless you think you want to match with the other bridesmaid.
You know, now that you mention it, when I asked him if he was going to come stay with us, he said he had something he had to take care of first. Was real cagey about it, but I didn't think to ask any questions. Even when I offered to help, he refused it.
Let's hope that he did. I don't know him, but if Cloud and Red can vouch for him, then I don't see an issue. He said we were really good friends. I just wish that I could remember.
So you really don't know anything about him either?
I guess that's all we need. Only thing we can do now is give him time... I did offer him food and drink if he ever needed it at the bar, so hopefully we'll see him around. But if you hear anything from him, let me know.
[Is she a little worried about him and his wellbeing? Most definitely.]
[She means that. It really is difficult not knowing these things.]
He tells me that he used to visit the bar often. The new one, from what I've heard. I just feel bad about it, you know? Telling someone that you don't remember them isn't easy.
Hello, I hope that you've been enjoying your holiday season this year! I wasn't able to bring much with me, traveling through the boundaries of time and space is still quite a lot, even for Christmas magic! But I do hope this gift helps keep you warm in the days to come.
Happy Holidays,
Santa Claus
[Tifa is given a lovely, hand-knitted sweater that's super warm, and a mixology kit!]
[Left behind the bar is a package with Tifa's name on it; inside is a new book of sheet music for the bar piano, and a signed note from Miriam. Some of Carabosse's fairy dust is still on some of the pages. Someone had to inspect it for quality assurance, of course.]
[ Should he be doing this? Debatable! It wasn't the best idea, but it was an opportunity. ]
I know about the no spoilers rule so don't worry, but he said you had different memories. The one he mentioned was you said we never ran into each other at Gongaga.
[ Not one he was thinking he'd send, either, but it never hurt to check in with people from home. ]
Just wanted to know what pages everyone's on.
He said you and Scarlet got into it and you fell into a mako reserve, and there was a run-in with Sephiroth. I dunno how much you know about other shit either, and I don't wanna make assumptions.
[There are some things she's going to conveniently leave out, like her journey through the Lifestream that day, or what happened to Cloud, but she can at least share some of the other details?]
Just like you said: We were in Gongaga. Shinra and Scarlet showed up, but we managed to chase them off. That's the last thing I remember.
And clearly he knows how to keep secrets, so he isn't going to go around running his mouth. If they were on better terms he'd tease her with it, but alas.. ]
But you got a nice heaping helping of Mako, and didn't see us there on the way to Gongaga.
[ And Aerith corroborated that. ]
Here's hoping you beat Scarlet's ass, I can't stand her. Anyway, so what was on the itinerary before you showed up here?
[They sure did kick Scarlet's ass. She only wishes that she would have kicked it a little more before she got away, but she had more important matters to tend to.]
We were following the men in the black robes. Figured they would lead us to Sephiroth.
[ Please tell Reno all about beating her ass in 4k HD detail. ]
Oh yeah, those guys.
[ He wrinkled his nose at his phone. Hojo had them running all over the fucking place to catalogue those things, not to mention the mess Evan got himself in because of those guys and his mom. ]
I don't know what NOT to say if I don't know what the last thing you did was. Even that's shaky with the different stories, but it's better than nothing.
And partly cause something happened somewhere. It ain't that big of a deal, but I'd rather keep tabs on it in case something does come up. Plus it never hurts to have third parties in on this kinda thing.
It's not a big deal, and here's hoping it doesn't turn into one. I'm just getting the stories down so if something does happen, I'm not caught with my pants down.
As far as here goes, nothing yet. No news from me is good news. If I do come around with news, just get ready to batten the hatches and gird your loins.
Meaning hopefully the different stories don't become a problem, but I wanna be ready if they do.
Also meaning if catch sight of anything that might make problems for you, you guys'd be the first to hear about it, so not hearing from me is a good thing.
Nope, but it's good enough for now. Don't be a stranger. ;)
[He has been an unemotional roller coaster for Freminet. Ever since he told Tifa what his past, he couldn't ever be more thankful for her accepting him. That said, he wasn't sure what kind of presents he could give her to ever thank her. All he could do was give some chocolate chip cookies and some flowers. There is a note that reads:]
Dear Ms. Tifa,
Merry Christmas. I hope you like your presents and thank you for allowing me to be your friend.
[It's someone's birthday! Zack might have heard about it along the grapevine. So he's sure to make sure to drop off a gift box for her. Inside are a bunch of star-shaped sugar candies. Yummy!]
Hey, Tifa! Heard it was your birthday! Happy birthday. -Z
[This was a nice surprise to come back to!! Especially when she forgot it was her birthday at all.]
Thanks for the gift, Zack! The candies are so cute that I almost don't wanna ruin them by eating them! Be sure to stop by the bar to grab one for yourself, okay?
[As soon as Roxas wanders onto the Seventh Heaven, the bar will be hard to missβset in the center of the ship's deck is the round bar with stools along one half, and tables scattered around the area, some already filled with customers enjoying their food and drink. Once she sees him aboard, she waves him over to a stool directly in front of her.]
Over here! Saved you a seat. Best one in the house.
[Well, that's an interesting one, and she'll get to work scooping up some chocolate ice cream into one of her fancy bowls, and offering him a selection of different things should he wish to sprinkle some on. Including... sea salt.]
Well, I've got this. I use it for drinks, but it should work for ice cream. And might be good with the chocolate, too.
[Tifa hadn't had the fortune of seeing such places before leaving Midgar, so she can only imagine what that was like. Hell, she could barely remember what the full sky looked like after a while.
But as she pops another chocolate chip into her mouth, she tilts her head at him.]
So, what brings you here anyway? Doubt it was to reminisce about home much. ... Not that it's a problem!

This may not be a message about breakfasts but I wanted to ask you what kind of books you might like. I may have found a rather interesting hole in the wall with books on sale.
no subject
Really!? Honestly, I love all kinds of books, but
This is a little embarrassing, but I've been a bit of a fan of romance and fantasy books lately. Better yet if it's the same book.
no subject
Nothing embarassing of the sort. I'll also admit that I'm fond of fantasy and adventure novels myself. If there is a well-written romance as well, I won't refuse it.
Browsing here I have found a few that might pick your interest. If you would you be amenable to the idea how would care for starting a little book club?
no subject
I mean, of course I would! That sounds like an amazing idea. What with all this traveling overseas, it can get kinda boring out on the water, huh?
no subject
That's why I thought it might be an interesting idea. It's simple, we take turns picking out a book to read that might interest both of us. Then while we are travelling we both read our copies of the book. Once we're finished reading, or in this case, once we've hit shore again, we compare notes.
Of course, should you want to compare notes while travelling the seas, that's fine too.
no subject
I love this!!! βΊοΈ You know, what if we meet on Eltrut once in a while to compare notes? There's this great little tea shop that Jill took me to. Could get cozy there with some tea, scones, and the books we read.
no subject
If that's the case, we most certainly must investigate this tea shop with our books in hand.
[Book club!!!]
no subject
no subject
no subject
Crazy idea, but you think she might wanna join our little book club?
no subject
[So long as everyone's okay with her slipping in a steamy romance novel here and there-]
no subject
Let me know what she says!
In the meantime, you still haven't told me about the books you've been reading.
no subject
Of course. The one I am reading now is about a noble married couple who secretly live a second life as trained rogues. They are tasked with protecting a charge across a war-torn land. But somewhere along the way, their contracts are turned on one another. A complicated emotional twist.
[It's Mr. & Mrs. Smith- but make it pirates.]
damn i want to read that book
Do they know that they're both rogues or is that a secret they find out along the way?
[Or is that too spoilery!?]
no subject
I'm not entirely sure of the details on that part. But we can discuss that once we're finished.
[He's very excited about this!]
no subject
[This is such a cute idea. He should absolutely be excited about it! Tifa is thrilled!!]
You know, it's funny. I didn't think you'd be into the romances.
no subject
[He's amused!!]
no subject
[If he could hear her laugh right now...]
I just meant that you seem more the adventure type. You know, big fantasy world, maybe with some dragons or magic. Adventure!
no subject
I do like those stories! I grew up reading all of those under the covers with my brother every night.
Yet, it can be our little secret that reading the stories with romance as well always had me captured the most.
[He's a soft heart.]
no subject
Alright. Promise I won't tell anyone if you don't. π
You'll have to tell me about those stories you read with your brother sometime, too.
no subject
If I may ask... How did you create that small face? [The emoji!]
That I can do as well. I'm curious if I can find any of the same titles I used to read with him here in this world.
no subject
[And here comes a screenshot of the emoji button next to the text input field, followed by more of them.]
π₯°βΊοΈπ
I'm sure you could find something similar, if not the same, if you look hard enough. I've also heard of people asking the Leviathans to bring things back from their worlds. Don't really know how that works, though.
no subject
ππππ€
There we are. Thank you.
I have not heard that the leviathans were capable of such a thing... I'll have to remember that.
no subject
But you should definitely ask them how it works. And maybe I can borrow that book sometime. Might consider bringing a few myself, if I can.
no subject
[What's a cowboy!!??]
I'll be happy to lend you any books. Although if you would like to come with me to a leviathan to ask, I wouldn't turn away your company.
π?
But I'd love to. I've yet to actually meet Nogard properly, so when you go, let me know. I'm pretty good at sneaking onto the leviathan these days. π
π
We'll speak again soon, Tifa. And thank you.

I don't think so, no. Aren't they crustaceans?
[Count on Tifa to offer the actual right answer. Sorry she's no fun, but it's educational!!!]
no subject
Really? You're the best, Tifa! That should be enough to deter this conversation. And you weren't sure you could help!

Wait, what conversation? Is someone going around telling people that they're bugs?

[ Aerith is leaving a lot of information out here. That's the fun of it, though. ]

He said what???
He didn't actually, did he? There are way too many things we don't know anything about, he shouldn't be going around stuffing things in his mouth that shouldn't be there!

First Aerith with her shrimp question and now this... gnome video... from Cloud....of all people........]
Cloud? Is everything okay?

no subject
You know, she sent me something strange too. Asking me about whether or not shrimps were bugs, and then told me that Zack was going to eat bugs.
Do you know anything about that?
no subject
I am starting to see why those two had been close even before all of us met.
no subject
They were?
no subject
no subject
[To her, at least.
Tifa can't help but feel a bit... sullen about it? But she'll try to shake it off quick enough. Good thing that text doesn't convey that.]
Well, I guess if anyone makes sense, it would be those two, wouldn't it?
no subject
[ Meaning she probably purposefully told him that. For reasons Tifa doesn't want explained. ]
They are pretty similar though, huh?

I would have thought she'd put a stop to Zack eating bugs, but I wonder if I'm being a little too hopeful about that.

Is Aerith someone you know? Or someone whose ID is makoglow?
no subject
Yes. On both counts. But I swear, I didn't give them your ID. I would never. What are they even sending you?
[A little offended that he would even accuse her of that, but she won't say so.]
no subject
Something about burgers and...a video I instantly closed and deleted after opening.
no subject
Did it so happen to be a video with a little dancing gnome?
no subject

At any rate, I have no idea how they managed to get your ID. Unless one of them snuck into the kitchen to find it when I wasn't looking. But jumping to the conclusion that I just handed it over to them? Really?

There's a clear difference between the public and private messaging systems.
Even if we say that still applies, you are the only one I've frequently communicated with, and it turns out the unsolicited messages are from people related to you.

I'd hope to chat if you're free.
no subject
What's up?
no subject
Other than that, I thought to ask you how you are doing.
no subject
I'm doing fine these days, still a little shaken up by that bird thing that attacked, but nothing too serious on our end. But enough about me!
Are you okay!?
[Bet he's been asked that a lot recently.]
no subject
I am glad to hear it.
I am fine, I assure you. Maybe only a little bored?
[He's been asked that 1 million times. But he appreciates it.]
no subject
I'd come visit, maybe bring by some snacks, but by the time I get there, I bet you'll be right back on your feet again.
no subject
That is alright, though. I appreciate the thought that you would come to my side if you could. You might have to settle for telling me more about what you've been up to. Do you have any adventures you could regale me with?
[Girllll what you been up to.]
no subject
I did manage to make a trip down to that mermaid city in that whirlpool not that long ago. That was pretty neat. Never had fins before, but I guess there's a first for everything in this place.
no subject
And is that so? It must have been disorienting to suddenly have fins. What was it like? I regret not being able to experience that for myself.
no subject
I'm sure if you asked nicely, the mermaids would be happy to show you around. I know that they're still trying to recover, so any help they can get down there would go a long way.
When you're feeling better, obviously!
no subject
[Although, Joshua is a bit amused thinking about her trying to find her directions. Which way is up? Which way is down?]
I will have to see if I have free time to do just that. I wouldn't mind an easy adventure, of sorts.
[It might be some time before he can, though. He has a bigger task to concentrate on first...]
no subject
[But something has been nagging at her since he first messaged her, and she's going to come out and ask.]
So. How've you been, other than the whole being bed-ridden thing? Been a while since we've been able to talk for much longer about ourselves.
no subject
As for me, while I am loathe to talk about myself...
I haven been alright. Although, recently someone who I greatly admired left this world. So perhaps I have been feeling somewhat lonely.
no subject
[It hasn't quite clicked with her yet what sort of relationship it could be, but—]
I'm sorry. I know what that's like, losing someone here to the rifts. Who was it, if you don't mind my asking?
[She hopes it wasn't his brother...]
no subject
His name was Dion Lesage. A man from my star and one that I have known since childhood.
We were close. I do not regret the time we shared but it is a bit... bittersweet.
no subject
no subject
I am alright, though. They say that someone's first love is always the hardest.
[So, he should be fine now that it's over.]
no subject
... But he doesn't seem fine.]
They do say that, yeah. Did he at least know that you did?
no subject
[They never had the chance to say the words but ... Joshua did feel that way and he's sure Dion must have felt something similar.]
no subject
no subject
Much like a knight in shining armour, if I'm honest.
But much too hard on himself.
no subject
He was a prince too, wasn't he? He turned into this dragon thing as well, with wings and everything and saved me from a bunch of skeletons on the ghost ship. Still not quite sure what that was about.
no subject
I'm sure he hadn't meant to keep it a secret. But Dion was also the Dominant of Bahamut. Meaning that he could transform into Bahamut's form, as you said.
I'm not surprised he was off valiantly saving others.
no subject
You know, next time you see him, you should tell him all of this.
I think I know what it's like, feeling like an opportunity to tell someone something passes you by.
no subject
I'll admit... it does hurt to think I missed my chance. But if I do, I'll do my best. How can I not when I have your blessing.
no subject
Honestly? I'm surprised I didn't see it before. Just from what I knew from the few times I did meet him, you two seem like you would get along well, and have a lot in common.
And if it will help clear your head a little, why not try writing a letter to him? Maybe toss it in a bottle, and who knows?
no subject
We certainly did have a lot in common, although he was always better at drinking than I was. [A small joke, to lighten the mood.]
And I might try just that. Perhaps it'll help if I put my thoughts into words. Even if they might not reach him? I do know that there are some here who say that writing a letter to the ocean can be particularly cathartic.
no subject
no subject
Other than my own heart troubles, I hope yours is treating you fairly?
no subject
But other than that, my day's gone fine. Bar's been keeping me busy lately.
no subject
Do you wish to talk more about it, Tifa? I may be inexperienced but I would listen just as you have listened to me.
no subject
But thank you, Joshua. I'll hold you to that.
[She really does mean that.]
π
Thank you for writing with me.
[He's not sure how to use the term "chatting with me" just yet.]

no subject
Of course it would be alright! βΊοΈ We're docked at our usual spot in Eltrut, so just look for the colourful sails. I'll get the bar nice and ready for you.
no subject
I should be in Eltrut in a few days' time, coming from Nogard.
[ surprise!! she's a corsair.. and she knows how to emoji! ]
If there's anything I can procure for you here, do let me know. I'm very much looking forward to this!
-SH.
no subject
[And wow, at least Sumina knows how to emoji. One less person to teach—]
β action!
no subject
What's all this?
[A motion to the herbs as she beckons for Sumina to follow her down the boardwalk to where the Seventh Heaven is docked not far.]
no subject
The innkeeper falls into step as she follows, holding the bundle up when Tifa asks about them. ]
Ahaha. I know you said I needn't bring anything, but... I've been experimenting with growing these, and used a tonic I'd received from a quest... which then made my plants grow a bit too much. So, these are for you and the bar! You'd be doing me a favor by taking these off of my hands, really!
no subject
[Tifa's eyes widen a bit at the herbs as she leads Sumina up to the ship, gesturing for her to board first from the dock, because that is quite the bundle she has.
But as soon as they're both on board, she does a sweeping gesture to welcome her, as if she were walking into Eltrut's fanciest bar... which it is far from being.]
Ah! Welcome aboard, Miss Sumina.
no subject
Ha— Happy to be on board, Miss Tifa! Wow... So this ship is all your own, isn't it? And your crew's of course. Remarkable!
[ She can't imagine how much work it must be to keep something like this going, but, well... She has a feeling she'll have to learn sooner or later, especially if a certain someone whose name starts with "go" and rhymes with "joe" decides to procure (?) and establish his own crew. ]
no subject
So, grab a seat and I'll whip up whatever you want!
no subject
no subject
No house wines yet, though I am cooking up something that should hopefully be finished in a few months. I have already made my own whiskey, but we don't carry that one here.
[It had been a gift for someone else, and she's going to keep that particular brand unique to him.]
So... hm. You prefer red or white?
no subject
[ As for wines, however... ]
I prefer white wine. And on the dryer side...
no subject
[Dry white wine coming right up. And since I know nothing about wines, pretend that there are some crisp citrusy notes to it.]
It's actually kinda fun, though... distilling. Learned a lot while making it. You should come with me next time! Maybe get one started for when you get a new inn up and running.
[She winks, teasing.]
no subject
I would love to, though— Ah.
[ The teasing!! Sumina chuckles and shakes her head. ]
Oh, I don't know if I would manage such an undertaking here... I feel rather adrift here, if I'm honest. Each day is wilder than the last. That's why I find it so impressive that you and your companions managed to establish this!
no subject
[With a cold bottle of beer in hand, she comes around the counter to join Sumina, taking a seat on the stool next to hers. She doesn't want to be interrupted if she's standing behind the bar.]
Well, when you've got a crew of really eager doers who all wanna be really hands-on, it becomes a little easier. [A pause, and she takes a small swig of her beer.] I meant to ask, did you manage to find yourself a crew since I last saw you?
no subject
I... have yet to find a different crew.
no subject
The name that Sumina mentions, though, is an unfamiliar one to her, and she takes another small sip of her beer and tilts her head.]
Satoru? He a friend or family?
[The only reason she asks that is because it sounds like a conditionalβsomething that Sumina is taking into heavy consideration for her own future.]
1/2
...Has she ever been asked to actually describe their relationship out loud, before...? Usually, the fact just seems to surface itself without need for explanation, especially if Satoru himself is present. He's rather outspoken, after all... ]
He's... no, he's...
[ She's definitely starting to blush. ]
no subject
Satoru is, ah... My lover...
no subject
Ah. Well then, I guess it is pretty important that you stick with him.
[That answers that.
She really can't help herself, and she doesn't mean to tease, butβ]
That mean he'll be your captain, too?
[There might be the faintest glimmer of amusement in her eyes.]
no subject
...But, yes. Tifa is right about that, on both counts... ]
Y..Yes, I suppose so!
[ Ahh, she's being teased. ]
We met at the hotel I mentioned to you before, and arrived here together. We were... incredibly fortunate, that it turned out this way, ahaha...
no subject
[Tifa nearly chokes on her sip of beer before she sets the bottle down, staring at Sumina with no shortage of shock.]
You met in another world, and then came here and... remembered each other? That's so...
[Romantic!?]
sorry for the delay sweet sheila!!
ππ
Honestly? I think it's sweet.
[Maybe not so much the chaotic part, but Tifa's never met him before, so who's to say?]
Almost makes me wish I had something like that, too.
no subject
She's also rather eager to not have this entire conversation revolve around her relationship and wants to get to know Tifa more, so given the opportunity, she quickly pivots. ]
Ah, I'm certain you'll find it for yourself, too, Tifa. You're so very lovely! In fact, I would be shocked if you didn't already have a few admirers... even if you might not know of them just yet.
no subject
[She doesn't mean to sound so surprised or interested in that, and realizing just how much she had, she draws it back, a hand fidgeting with a lock of hair.]
I don't know... With the bar and making sure the whole crew stays out of trouble, I'm not sure I would even have the time for something like that. I'm sure you know what that can be like sometimes, running an inn. When life keeps you busy...
no subject
no subject
Maybe... the right person will just fit...]
... Is that how you felt with Gojo when he came in?
[She's really not trying to embarrass Sumina, but... she might be trying to figure out her own feelings at the moment. Complicated, messy ones.
That, and she's a quiet, secret sucker for romance.]
no subject
...Though she does have to chuckle, at first. ]
Goodness...
Now, it feels like he was missing, when I look back on what my life was like before...
no subject
[Her voice takes on a more whimsical note to it, and for a moment, it looks as if her eyes drift off elsewhere with her thoughts once Sumina is finished.]
I guess... you won't really know until you try, huh? Harder to realize what you're missing when you don't know what that is...
[There's a brief, pensive pause as Tifa smiles to herself.]
You should bring him by Seventh Heaven sometime. I'd love to meet the guy who managed to woo you.
Text; un: Pers
And yet, the guilt was kicking in. He didn't want Lyney to bear the weight of it all. However, he just hoped that Tifa would understand...]
Ms. Tifa, are you around right now? There is something I need to talk to you about.
no subject
I am. Up at the bar right now, whenever you're ready. I'll whip up some iced tea for us?
[Though, she does have to wonder what it could be about, if he's texting her to check...]
no subject
Oh, thereβs no need. You donβt have to do that. But Iβll be at the bar soon.
[With that, off he went to the bar. As he did so, he took a deep breath in when he sat somewhere. Looking up, it was clear he had something on his mind.]
β¦Hello, Ms. Tifa. I hope you have been doing well.
no subject
About as well as I can be around here. And you, too.
[She gives the counter a pat as she stands across from him.]
We can go find a quieter place, if you want.
[Not that the deck is very loud at the moment. Things are quiet as they are, but she knows that can also change quickly.]
no subject
Y-Yes, that would best. Where do you think we can go?
[All the while shifting around his weight as he dared not to look her in the eyes.]
no subject
Well, I can't leave the bar with people here, but we can grab a table. [Picking up the glass with a reassuring smile, she comes around to the other side to lead him to one that's set far off to the side, away from the people who are enjoying their lunches.] This okay?
[At least here, their conversation will be muted under the din, and with it so close to the edge of the ship, the waves that splash against the hull.]
no subject
I know it will be difficult to hear but I want to make sure my family stays safe.
no subject
Your Father?
[Is his father here?
Panic rises in her expression.]
Is your family okay!? And Lyney?
no subject
Y-Yes, they're fine! Just...
[He said with a mumble or two.]
...We're working for an organization that isn't really well liked. We happened to do some things that some might seem questionable. I...I hope you don't mind that.
no subject
Not that it sounds like she needs to, but she does give a confused tilt of her head.]
What do you mean, organization?
[And then, there's the unasked question that's laced beneath it: what questionable things?
But her voice lacks any judgment because, really, who on this ship can even make the call on what borders on questionable?]
no subject
I...Lyney, Father and I are in an organization called the Fatui. Back home, they have done some rather interesting thing. Some that I don't want to talk about but...
[In the back of his mind, he wondered if he said anything, would her opinion of him or Lyney would change. He already knew that Tifa cared a lot about him, he didn't want to break that friendship.]
...They have done some experimentations on children and citizens alike. They aren't afraid of harming or destroying cities if they have to. But...
[He said with a mumble or two.] Despite this, I...I want to let you know that just because we work for them doesn't mean we share the same ideas.
no subject
Still, her expression lacks any judgment, and she listens carefully, and what he finishes with leaves her feeling... somewhat relieved. Relieved, but no less worried for him.]
I get that.
[She gives him a slow nod of understanding.]
Just because you work under a certain faction doesn't mean you've gotta agree with everything they do. And I know that you and Lyney aren't those kinds of people. [A smile, though it's crooked.] I believe that wholeheartedly.
no subject
[That wasn't something he was expecting to hear. Here, he thought she would reprimand him for doing such a thing. As he looked at her in shock, he quickly shook his head before coughing to himself.]
A-Are you sure? Because I know we...
[He trailed off before feeling a bit bold. If she understand then maybe...]
I have done some questionable things ourselves but it is for the sake of protecting the family.
[And not the organization. Even though they were part of the Fatui, Freminet would never work with them. Their ideas are terrible and downright cruel.]
no subject
Do you want to talk about it?
[It's asked simply, with no pressure whatsoever. If he doesn't want to talk about those things, then that's okay, but from the looks of it, this is something that he has been holding onto for a long time. Something that he seems to have been fretting and nervous about. If it would help for him to talk about it with someone he feels safe with, then she is willing to listen.]
no subject
There was a long silence before nodding his head.]
Y-Yes, I...what would you say if I did something dubious for survival? For...helping my family out?
[Despite sounding confident in the beginning, his voice slowly started to trail into a whisper. Almost as if he was ready for her to scold him.]
no subject
Tifa thinks she knows, or at least, she can make some assumptions about it based on his reaction alone. And for his honesty, she feels she needs to return the favour.]
... Mm. I'd say that while I can't condone anything bad, I'd also say that I have no room to judge. I don't know your world, or your life before this one. Maybe you needed to do what you had to to survive and to protect the people that you love because there was no other choice, I don't know.
no subject
In that moment, he closed his eyes as he just hoped for the best.]
E-Even if it meant...killing people? Or anyone that can be seen as a threat to the family...?
[While he wanted to be confident in his words, he found himself whispering it the more he continued. Again, he was just waiting a scolding. Just waiting to see if she would reject him....]
no subject
[She's not naming names because really, none of the others here had as much a hand in it, so it didn't really matter who.]
no subject
And yet, he couldn't bring himself to. He had to hear what she would say, it was the least he could do. Taking in a few deep breathes, he eventually gave a nod. Although, now with her words sinking in, he raised an eyebrow or two.]
Y-Yes...? Is everything okay?
[That wasn't something he expected to hear. However, based on his tone, he had to wonder. Did she end up doing something questionable too?
Perhaps...they would find something in common among one another?]
no subject
Destroyed people's homes, killed hundreds, maybe thousands... and for what...?
no subject
Trying to calm his mind, he was reasoning within himself that everything was going to be okay.]
I...
[Of course, as he heard her, his eyes slowly widen. To think that Tifa would ever be part of a group that would do something dangerous was a little unheard of. And yet, there was some hope behind his words. What she went through wasn't too different from what he and Lyney were doing now.]
....I'm sorry, it must have been a lot for you when that happened...
[He said as he looked down at her hand on top of his. It was still a lot to take in but it was comforting to know there was someone who understands.]
no subject
[She drops her eyes to their hands, and she gives his a small, comforting squeeze.]
What I'm trying to say is... I have a lot of blood on my hands, too. So many of us do. So... don't be afraid to talk about it. You can trust me. Us.
[The crew. Even if it isn't just her.]
no subject
[He said in a low voice. Back then, when he said he had to survive, Zack didn't question it. He just said that he understands. Now that he knew the context, it made a lot of sense. As he held onto her hands, he could feel his eyes starting to water.
For the longest time when he was here, he had to hide a dark secret. He feared what his friends would think knowing that he had done something terrible and that they would reject him. Now that there was someone...no, people that knew what it was like? He couldn't help but start crying.]
no subject
You talked to Zack, too?
[She shouldn't be surprised in the least, and she does smile a little at that, glad to at least know that Freminet feels safe enough to do so with people on the crew. Zack would be a good person to talk to about that, she thinks. Even if she's still working through her differences with him.
For that, she is relieved.]
What Zack and I did was... very different, and for a while, we were on opposite teams, but I think yeah, that might be why he understood.
[And even if he didn't, it just seems like something he would do.]
So, that's why you shouldn't feel scared to talk to us. No matter what it is, we're here to help. [A pause, as she thinks back to the rest of their conversation.] What exactly brought this on anyway?
no subject
After the heartache of having his friends questioning them, it just felt nice to know that he was safe. He'll have to ask Tifa and Zack what their dynamics were later but until then...?]
F-Father is here.
[He struggled to say. He had to focus on his words, he had to manage his emotions, he had to focus on the task at hand.]
...She...She is considered someone dangerous in o-our world.
no subject
She's not quite sure yet what to think of what he saysβwhether or not she is glad to hear that Freminet's "father" is here, or what that even means. What it could imply. If she is a dangerous person, then...]
But you two aren't in any trouble, are you? She isn't going to hurt you or Lyney?
no subject
No, she won't. It's what she has to do to make sure our family stays safe. That's what makes her dangerous.
[Not to mention how Father doesn't exactly believe what the other Fatui members are doing. While she might have to follow their rules, it doesn't means she has to agree with it.]
...And the people from my world know that too. I thought it would only be a matter of time before you found out too.
no subject
[Well, that's a relief, but...]
Would it be alright if I met her sometime? You should bring her by the ship, so she can at least see for herself that her family is safe.
[She doesn't want any trouble, but if this woman is as dangerous as Freminet says, and if he'd been so scared to tell Tifa about her, then Tifa wants to see for herself, too.]
no subject
[Because as much as she wants Arlecchino to meet the crew, she knew she couldn't force her to.]
Although, I can try and see if she wants to.
no subject
[Wants to make sure that she won't do anything to harm the crew, for one, but more than that...]
She should at least see what sort of place you guys are staying in. Meet the crew. So she can at least put her own mind at ease. ... And mine.
no subject
[That and given how she's a Harbinger, she probably wanted to give her children some time to themselves but...!]
...However, I think the fact that you simply accepted what I told you would make her happy. Not everyone is so willing to do that.
no subject
[Some people lack any compassion for others. Too many, she thinks.]
... Were you worried that we wouldn't be willing to? That we would just turn you and your brother away?
no subject
[Because he had heard what happened with his brother. He was also heartbroken when the traveler rejected his friendship and turned the other way. He wasn't surprised, who would want to be associated with such an organization?]
We work with people that are dangerous. Not a lot people like them since they did terrible things in our world. Why would they want to be friends with us?
[Nevermind that his Father or any of his siblings agreed with what the Fatui were doing. They were still associated with them no matter what.]
no subject
[Tifa's chair screeches gently as she drags it across the floor, moving so that she is sitting beside him and not across from him now. She needs to make sure that he knows and remembers this, what she is about to say. That he takes it to heart.]
And who you are here, or even back there, is not defined by your past.
[If it were, then she would be just as bad.]
I don't care if you had to do what you did to survive, and to protect the people that you love. I know that you wouldn't do it if you didn't have a reason. [There's a pause.] And... while I'd prefer we didn't have to do it here, no one is gonna fault you for anything you've had to do before.
no subject
[He just didn't know how to respond to that. She's right, whatever he did back home has no bearing on what he does here. Whatever is in the past, stays in the past. All that matters now is what he does in the present.
It was great knowing that he didn't need to worry about such things here but at the same time? It did make him wonder would anyone else would be as accepting as she is.]
...You are much too kind, Ms. Tifa. I wish that there were more people like you in our world and can understand what my family had to go through. We didn't have a choice as Father took us when there was nobody we could turn to...
no subject
[She smiles, but there's a sadness in her eyes. She really does wish that there were more people who could accept, and even forgive others. Too many people hold others beholden to their pasts, and she doesn't think that's the right way to look at things.]
We all know what it's like to do what you gotta to survive. Maybe we haven't all done the same things, and we all went about it in different ways, but... we get it. You don't have to worry.
no subject
[There wasn't much he could say to that. Tifa was already doing much more than he expected. He just couldn't ask for anything more when she was just so kind. How could she ever been in an organization that involved killing others...?]/small>
...Thank you, I'm just glad to know that my family will find some acceptance here. It's already difficult enough when there's so many things I don't know.
no subject
[Of that, she has no doubt. And this time... she really will pull him in for a hug. First, one arm around his shoulders to bring him to her, and then into a more full embrace with both once she has, and she holds him as tight as she can without hurting him.]
Don't ever worry about that, okay?
Want to wrap it up?
Of course...I'll be sure to find a way to repay your kindness.
yep! π

If I were to hypothetically plan to make a giant breakfast, and I mean a huge one, for a couple of kids and teenagers that live with us, how hard would that be.
no subject
[How cute...]
That depends. How would you rate your skill of flipping pancakes on a scale of 1 to 10?
no subject
I think I can flip a mad pancake. I'd say... at least a generous 8/10.
I want to do something nice for those two. You probably heard about Freminet.
[These two kids... Have had it rough.]
no subject
But yeah, I did hear from him, and he mentioned he talked to you, too. Poor kid looked like he was on the verge of just running away that whole conversation. Think whatever we both told him seemed to help, though.
no subject
But let me do all the work, I can scramble all the eggs, crisp up all the bacon and flip all the pancakes. You don't have to lift a finger.
It's just as much for them as I want to do something nice for you too.
no subject
no subject
[Hmm.]
Or at least, I want to learn to get better at it.
no subject
I really don't mind helping if you need it, but I think pancakes is the best place to start. I've been wondering where I can find a waffle maker, though. I've yet to see a proper one around...
And we could get some fresh sausage and bacon! I know a butcher on Eltrut that has the best meats!
no subject
A waffle maker, huh... Don't supposed someone made some sort of magitech one lately.

no subject
What kind of berries do you like on yours anyway?
no subject
As for berries? I dunno. Probably strawberries or blueberries.
What's your go to choice?
no subject
They were always so hard to come by in Midgar fresh, and when I could find them, they were way too expensive. So now I take any opportunity to enjoy them when I find one.
no subject
Midgar was always a pain for the good stuff... Makes me think, maybe we could ask Aerith what she thinks about us planting some strawberries.

Any other fruits we wanna shove into her hands to grow?

What about some berries? Blackberries or raspberries?

Oh?
[A good thing that nervousness doesn't come across in text messages!!!]
And how'd that go?
no subject
no subject
Yep, that definitely sounds like him.
[And then a moment later, another message comes through:]
Wait, what do you mean by stamp of approval???
no subject
[plz Tifa she knows how bashful you're being about the guy with the puppy ears]
no subject
[Please don't make her say it.]
no subject
Yeah, I know what you mean. He seems like a good egg, like my mom would say, that's all!
I still don't know why she says actually.
no subject
[She can't say she's ever heard that one before, but she'll take it as a good sign, too.]
He didn't end up giving you any trouble, did he?
no subject
no subject
[Fondly. She means that fondly.]
Reminded me a little of Cloud when we met, honestly.
no subject
no subject
Actually, despite what he might've made you believe, he went off to help me find the person the phone belonged to after that.
no subject
By the way, Iβve managed to get some flowers to grow that can be used in drinks! I set up a special spot for them in my garden area and they look good. We should set up a time to experiment with them soon.

It'll be interesting to see what can be done with it, she was very sure it works in all kinds of drinks.

[ Because that is what is going on here. ]
You see, Miss Tifa, there is a certain nameday coming up and I would very much like to -
Please do not laugh, I realize how my request is going to sound.
I would like to prepare something. For this person.
no subject
[Yeah, she knows.]
What's the request? π And no worries, I won't tell him a thing.
no subject
As for my request, my own culinary skills are lacking. Thus I would ask for your assistance in something fairly simple. Baking a cake, to be precise.
no subject
I'd be happy to help! You happen to know what his favourite cake is?
no subject
Or tell me something ridiculous like 'anything we could have together.'
no subject
[... Even if it's not edible, probably.]

[Is something wrong!? Did something happen!?
...Why is that always the default thought that she has whenever someone contacts her...]
no subject
Would you do me the honor of being my bridesmaid?
[At least Jill gets right to the point once the pleasantries are done with.]
no subject
And as soon as she picks up, Tifa's voice will be on the other endβ]
You're getting married!? When? How!? I meanβcongratulations!
[Sorry she missed the memo on the network, Jill.
because the other lady had priority there]no subject
Jill picks up on the second ring, sounding far more amused than usual.]
Thank you. It happened this moon past. As for how, well, he asked and I accepted. It's rather simple.
no subject
[She laughs at Jill's very straightforward answer.]
Was it romantic? Did he take you somewhere nice?
no subject
[Was that a girlish little giggle from Jill? Yes, it was. If only Tifa could see how she's blushing.]
He took me to gaze at the moon. It was something we'd done together a few times before, but that night was just different. I can't say why exactly, it just felt that way. I asked him if he was there to whisk me away in the middle of a night like a proper Corsair. His response was that he was looking for the finest treasure of all.
[A happy sigh as she recounts the night that changed her life.]
It just happened to be me.
no subject
Well, I'd say you're a fine treasure indeed. That sounds like it was amazing, though. Like it's right out of a book.
[There's something of a whimsical, quiet sigh that leaves her.
But she realizes then that she still hasn't answered Jill's questionβ]
Ah, sorry. I meanβof course I'll be a bridesmaid!? Honestly, I'm surprised you asked me at all.
no subject
[But no, Clive is just naturally a romantic when it comes to her, well-bred regardless of what his mother might say, and treats Jill like the precious thing she is to him.]
Why wouldn't I? You're one of my closest friends here. Just inviting you to the ceremony doesn't seem enough.
[Well, only one of two of her closest female friends here, but in time, that should change. For now, though, Jill wants Tifa by her side on that significant day, just as Joshua will be there for Clive.]
no subject
[And now a different kind of excitement is bubbling up.]
So, anything special I should wear? Or anything I need to do? ... I've never been a bridesmaid before.
no subject
Well, I assume that as a bridesmaid you need to make sure I arrive on time. Maybe help with tying my corset, have tissue in case I cry...
[Which she will. It's a guarantee Jill will sob on the happiest day of her life.]
And I'm much more concerned for your own comfort. Just dress as you would any other wedding, unless you think you want to match with the other bridesmaid.
no subject
[But she tilts her head thoughtfully at the next piece.]
But this is your day, so you get to decide. Do you have a favourite colour that I should look for at least?
no subject
I'm quite partial to blue, but please allow me to at least let you pick what shade you'd like to wear.
[No bridezilla here!]
no subject
no subject
[She laughs softly, before it's cut off by her remembering something.]
Ah, before I forget: You can also bring someone if you'd like. A companion of a sort.
no subject
[Her cheeks flush suddenly at that, her entire demeanour changing from sure of herself to more shy.]
I... um, okay. Well, I'll think about it.
text;
Have you seen that dark haired, edgy guy with the floaty red cape hovering around?
no subject
There are a lot of dark-haired, edgy guys around here, but do you mean Vincent?
no subject
no subject
no subject
Well, Vincent wanted me to pass along a message to you.
no subject
[That next part surprises her, though.]
Oh? What sort of message?
no subject
I don't get the message but I think Cloud will more than we will. He said, "I'm almost finished."
I'm guessing with some sort of task or thing he was doing.
no subject
no subject
Whatever it was, must mean he took your offer to heart, then?
I'm fine with him joining us if he's up for it. Seems like it's unanimous.
no subject
So you really don't know anything about him either?
no subject
Which, by all means join our club, right?
no subject
no subject
no subject
no subject
[Since a lot of them do have those...]
But Cloud did say he trusts him.
no subject
[Is she a little worried about him and his wellbeing? Most definitely.]
no subject
[If it's the fact that he sucks at using his shellphone or he's a shadow in the night? It's left to be said!]
no subject
no subject
[He's mostly joking now.]
no subject
no subject
You got that right, he'll fit right in.
It's kind of nice getting the chance to meet another guy from home, though. There's that too.
no subject
no subject
If you were friends once, maybe it'll be easier to get to know him this time.
no subject
[She means that. It really is difficult not knowing these things.]
He tells me that he used to visit the bar often. The new one, from what I've heard. I just feel bad about it, you know? Telling someone that you don't remember them isn't easy.
no subject
We need a party in the bar soon.
no subject
But is that something you think we might need?
no subject
Might be a nice way to welcome Vincent in if he does end up joining us.
no subject
A welcome party for Vincent? I know I barely know him, but I wonder how he might react to that. You've met the guy, right?
no subject
[He'll wrangle Cloud like that any day too.]
no subject
[Says the introvert.]
no subject
[Who's he kidding? He'll crumble.]
no subject
[She's imagining him saying something "whatever."]
no subject
I'll see what I can squeeze out of Cloud. Or maybe if I can find the guy again.
no subject
He's pretty hard to pin down, apparently, so good luck with that.
no subject
and this one too? c:
[Teamwork making the dream work.]

Christmas Gift
Hello, I hope that you've been enjoying your holiday season this year! I wasn't able to bring much with me, traveling through the boundaries of time and space is still quite a lot, even for Christmas magic! But I do hope this gift helps keep you warm in the days to come.
Happy Holidays,
Santa Claus
[Tifa is given a lovely, hand-knitted sweater that's super warm, and a mixology kit!]
Winterstide Gift
There's a pink knitted cat and a pink dragon statue that looks like the one they took on a "date". ]

I know about the no spoilers rule so don't worry, but he said you had different memories. The one he mentioned was you said we never ran into each other at Gongaga.
So have you two compared notes or something?
no subject
Not a lot, no. Why do you ask?
no subject
Just wanted to know what pages everyone's on.
He said you and Scarlet got into it and you fell into a mako reserve, and there was a run-in with Sephiroth. I dunno how much you know about other shit either, and I don't wanna make assumptions.
no subject
All I know is that there are some things that I remember that the others don't, and that Aerith remembered them too, when she was here.
no subject
Also heard you got married, so belated congrats on tying the knot. Lucky guy.
no subject
no subject
Unless you two break up. In which case, you've got my number if you need someone to disappear.
no subject
What tip? And who exactly is giving you "tips" on me? Extremely wrong ones, in this case.
[Married??? Where and who in the hell—]
no subject
That's sorta why I'm here now. Gotta clear things up, cause me and Blondie have matching timelines, but you and Aerith had matching timelines.
Let's try it this way so I don't step on your toes here. What's the last town you hit back home?
no subject
Well.
[There are some things she's going to conveniently leave out, like her journey through the Lifestream that day, or what happened to Cloud, but she can at least share some of the other details?]
Just like you said: We were in Gongaga. Shinra and Scarlet showed up, but we managed to chase them off. That's the last thing I remember.
no subject
And clearly he knows how to keep secrets, so he isn't going to go around running his mouth. If they were on better terms he'd tease her with it, but alas.. ]
But you got a nice heaping helping of Mako, and didn't see us there on the way to Gongaga.
[ And Aerith corroborated that. ]
Here's hoping you beat Scarlet's ass, I can't stand her. Anyway, so what was on the itinerary before you showed up here?
no subject
We were following the men in the black robes. Figured they would lead us to Sephiroth.
no subject
Oh yeah, those guys.
[ He wrinkled his nose at his phone. Hojo had them running all over the fucking place to catalogue those things, not to mention the mess Evan got himself in because of those guys and his mom. ]
What cities had you hit?
no subject
[Wait—]
So why exactly do you wanna know all this?
no subject
And partly cause something happened somewhere. It ain't that big of a deal, but I'd rather keep tabs on it in case something does come up. Plus it never hurts to have third parties in on this kinda thing.
no subject
no subject
As far as here goes, nothing yet. No news from me is good news. If I do come around with news, just get ready to batten the hatches and gird your loins.
no subject
[She has no idea what he's talking about but she's not going to ask any more questions.]
Actually, never mind. Does that answer your questions?
oh shit mb, i thought i responded to this
Also meaning if catch sight of anything that might make problems for you, you guys'd be the first to hear about it, so not hearing from me is a good thing.
Nope, but it's good enough for now. Don't be a stranger. ;)
npnp!
Do you know anything about a man named Vincent?
But she deletes it, deciding it's better that she doesn't. It was more curiosity than anything else, but it's none of her business.]
I'll try. Not like you don't know where to find me most days. But if anything comes up, you let us know.
no subject
no subject
[And then, about ten seconds later:]
Take care.

is it okay if I come by the restaurant?
no subject
Roxas! Of course! Don't even have to ask. :)
You know where to find us, right? Main port on Eltrut?
[Text-->action]
I'll be there soon
[And true to his word, he's soon walking through the doors.]
no subject
Over here! Saved you a seat. Best one in the house.
no subject
You didn't have to.
no subject
[She'll grab him a glass of water to start.]
What can I get you?
no subject
[He's a straightforward kid.]
no subject
[Tifa starts to count on her fingers.]
The usual vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, but we've also got caramel, coffee, cookies and cream, mint...
no subject
[He should remember this. But then, it's tough every time.]
I guess I'll have chocolate.
no subject
Well, I've got this. I use it for drinks, but it should work for ice cream. And might be good with the chocolate, too.
no subject
I mean, I'll try it.
I guess Twilight Town's the only place you can really find Sea Salt Ice Cream though.
no subject
Is that where you're from? Certainly got an interesting name.
no subject
[It gets complicated. What doesn't with him?]
It's a nice town though. Really nice sunsets.
no subject
[Tifa hadn't had the fortune of seeing such places before leaving Midgar, so she can only imagine what that was like. Hell, she could barely remember what the full sky looked like after a while.
But as she pops another chocolate chip into her mouth, she tilts her head at him.]
So, what brings you here anyway? Doubt it was to reminisce about home much. ... Not that it's a problem!
no subject
[He takes a bite of ice cream, thoughtful.]
But no, that wasn't really the reason.
I guess. I was trying to tell you last time, but then there was the fish.
About me and Sora.
no subject
[She straightens, at attention now.]
I think I remember that. You'd mentioned your friend had shown up, and explained... something?
[That part is a little foggy, because that was indeed right when the fish appeared.]
no subject
[And that kind of, reset the whole conversation. Worth it though.]
I was trying to explain. I don't remember where I left off.
no subject
[Her brow furrows a bit as she chews slowly on a chocolate.]
Nobodies? I don't think you ever really managed to explain that.
no subject
[He lets out a half sigh, half laugh.]
It's a little bit complicated. If you've got the time.
no subject
[The bar is relatively quiet at this time of day, with only a few customers already with their food and drinks.]
I'm listening, if you wanna talk about it.
[He'd given the impression that things were complicated between him and his friend, so maybe talking it out with someone else will help?]
no subject
Well, I guess the easiest way to start is that Sora's here. And he's my Other.
[Sounding like it's pronounced with a capital O]
You ever hear of monsters called Heartless?
no subject
[And she'd felt a little pang in her chest about it, though she can't say whether she was right or wrong toβshe had no idea what it meant.]
But no, can't say that I have.
no subject
[The less people have heard of Heartless, the better in Roxas's opinion. It means they haven't spread to all the Worlds.]
But, they're monsters, and they can steal a person's Heart.
no subject
You mean... like really steal it? Tear it out of their chest kind of steal it?
no subject
But it's like, not like the organ. More like...who you are.
[There's no blood, it's only got an E rating.]
no subject
... So the person that they take it from loses who they are? What happens to them after that?
no subject
[He plays with his ice cream a little bit, before taking a bite to fortify himself.]
I was a Nobody.
